Microsoft is finally going to start pushing IE6 users to a better web browser. Many of you have already switched to IE7 or IE8, you might have also gone with a different browser such as Firefox, Safari, or Chrome. But would you believe that 23.3 percent of internet users still use IE6? Well it’s true. The 23.3 percent usage of Internet Explorer 6 makes it still the most widely used internet browser. IE7 trails at 18.2 percent and IE8 at 18.1 percent.
Microsoft is now running a campaign from now through June 2010 that will urge users to upgrade. This is because IE6 just doesn’t have the security and features that a modern web browser has. Also IE6 users may find that some websites will not support IE6. Much like TechUnfolding.com, we do not support the browser, so doing anything on the site is virtually impossible.
“What we’re doing with the outreach is help users understand how to protect themselves against social engineering threats that exist and to help people understand how Internet Explorer 8 puts people in control of their own privacy online,” said Ryan Servatius, senior product manager for Internet Explorer, according to CNet.
The real challenge ahead for Microsoft will be to convince corporate users to upgrade from IE6 to IE8.

Meh, can’t say I’m sad to see it go.
